Echoes Beyond The Stage
Four years of Language is a Queer Things
Echoes Beyond the Stage traces the journey and impact of Language is a Queer Thing, a cross-border spoken word programme led by The Queer Muslim Project in collaboration with partners in India and the UK.
Spanning four years (2022–2025), the report documents how queer poets—particularly from South Asia and marginalised communities—have accessed new platforms, developed their craft, and built lasting artistic networks through a model rooted in care, collaboration, and visibility.
Drawing on interviews, archival material, and programme data, this evaluation goes beyond outputs to examine deeper shifts across artists, audiences, and institutions. It highlights how poetry can function not only as artistic expression, but as a tool for cultural exchange, community-building, and systemic change. From intimate workshops to major festival stages, the programme demonstrates how sustained support can transform both creative practice and the ecosystems that shape it—leaving an impact that continues well beyond the performance.
